Abstract
Objective: To assess the significance of diffusion weighted image in diagnosis and distinguishing malignant and benign kidney masses. Patients and methods: an analytical study included 25 patients and 7 healthy participants. History-taking were conducted with all patients., full clinical and general examination, kidney function test, examination for any associated conditions diffusion weighted image (DWI) of abdomen and pelvis. The visual evaluations of the diffusion weighted image pictures and the related ADC map, as well as the quantitative measure of the ADC value of the lesion, were used for image interpretation. When compared to the contralateral parenchyma, the signal intensity of the tumours on DWI was categorized as high, iso, or low-signal intensity. Results: ADC values showed an overall statistically significant variance between normal, benign, and malignant lesions (p-value under 0.001). The ADC values shows useful difference between subtypes of malignant renal lesions. Conclusion: Sonographic examination is the 1st imaging modality to detect a renal mass lesion. Adding DWI with high b value (b 800). A typical renal MR imaging protocol might easily include quantitative ADC measurements. It's a fairly accurate approach for determining kidney lesion size.
